Redilock PCD the “3×1/2” signifies three segments, each half-round, designed for efficient coating removal, often paired with a diamond bar for stability, and comes in clockwise or counter-clockwise directions for different grinder head rotations.
Key Features & Function
Three half-PCDs allow the shoe to find a stable footing on the slab. This significantly reduces “machine chatter” and the tendency for the grinder to hop or vibrate when it hits thick patches of epoxy.
Having three separate leading edges means the tool is constantly “biting” into the coating. It excels at shredding brittle materials like thick epoxy, self-leveling underlayment, and pool deck coatings.
The pressure from the machine is distributed across three points rather than concentrated on one, which can actually extend the life of the PCD segments compared to a single-segment shoe.
Wet vs. Dry: While these can be used wet to keep the floor cool, they are highly effective dry, which prevents the coating from turning into a sticky “slurry” that can be difficult to clean up.
Direction is crucial: Always match the tool’s rotation (CW/CCW) with your machine’s head rotation for safety and effectiveness.
